William McSharry, 85, of Pearl River, NY, passed away peacefully on March 23rd, holding the hand of his beloved wife of 54 years, Judith.
William “the Great”, known by many as simply, Bill, was a man of great conviction and faith. He was a most devout Catholic and was a great example of his Christian faith at home and in public.
William was a savvy tradesman who was a jack-of-all-trades. He was able to build or repair almost anything, and once he was finished “doing a McSharry” on it, it would work for a lifetime or be built to last forever.
To his co-workers, he was steady, consistent, knowledgeable, and wise. He was a longtime member of the Local 94 Union of Operating Engineers and worked for decades among the highrises and skyscrapers in New York City.
To his family and friends, Bill was the life-of-the-party who truly enjoyed laughter and friendships. He was a tremendous and hard-working family man who turned a house into a home.
He is survived by his brother, Frank & Nancy McSharry, sisters Mary (Ted) Casson and Sarah (Tommy) Farrelly. He is also survived by his six children, Marie Aker (husband Bob), John (wife JoAnna), Thomas (wife Beth), Sarah Brereton (husband Pete), Peter (wife Kelly), and Angela Mullane (husband Tom); grandchildren: Liam, Olivia, Kenan, Caeden, Kyle, Abby, Jude, Luke, Eve, Emily, and Madeline.
Visitation will be at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, NY on Monday, March 27th from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 28th, 10am at St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River, NY, with burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
