Nina Sheehan Strattner

Nina Sheehan Strattner, 89, of Pearl River, New York, passed away on May 18th, 2023. She was born in New York City on November 14, 1933, the daughter of James and Margaret Sheehan.

She graduated from Mount St. Ursula Academy in 1951, received her undergraduate degree from the College of New Rochelle in 1955 and a masters degree from Fordham University in 1959. She also received a masters degree and completed her ABD from the University of Chicago in 1963. Nina had a long and distinguished career with the New York City Board of Education, culminating in her role as Director of High School Guidance for New York City schools. 

Her husband of 57 years, Richard, predeceased her. Nina is survived by her son Richard and daughter-in-law Jade, her son Christopher and daughter-in-law Christie, and her grandchildren Elizabeth, Margaret, Daniel and Genevieve.

Nina was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, an active member of the Rockland County Board of Elections, volunteered at the New York City Job Corps, travelled the world through the detective novels she read voraciously, and delighted in the lives of her grandchildren.  

A remembrance of her life will take place on Thursday, May 25th from 4pm to 8pm at the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home located at 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY, 10965 A funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, May 26th at 10am at St. Margaret of Antioch Church, 115 West Central Avenue, Pearl River, NY 10965. 

In lieu of flowers, Nina requested donations be made in her name to the New York Public Library https://www.nypl.org.
