Mary Clohessy Obituary

Mary Clohessy of Pearl River, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

Mary was born on August 18, 1927 in Manhattan, NY to Lillian Frazier and spent her early years on the Upper West Side with her 4 brothers and 1 sister. She had a love for jazz music and theatre and sang on the radio Saturday mornings until she married her love, John Clohessy, in 1947. They moved to Castle Hill Avenue in the Bronx where they started their family and enjoyed their young sons' various activities and where she worked at the Castle Hill Beach Club. In 1973 she moved her family to Pearl River, NY where she continued to raise her 8 children.  She spent many enjoyable years working for Bamberger's department store. She was a devout Catholic and a member of the Ladies Guild of St. Aedan's Church in Pearl River.  She also spent many years volunteering at Nyack Hospital. She was most proud of her time spent as a volunteer foster grandparent for Nanuet School District, where she devoted 15 years, until the age of 87.

In her later years, she found a great love of golf and travel. She took part in almost every senior trip and traveled to Ireland and California, among other states, with friends. She was also an avid reader and made the decision to return to school at the age of 66 and attended Rockland Community College for 2 years where she took classes with her grandson, Patrick. A true city girl, she was always proud of the fact that she learned to drive at 60 years old. Mary was cherished greatly by her family and the many friends she made through work, the ladies guild, senior center and volunteering. She loved her days at the Pearl River Library playing mahjong and socializing. Anyone who met her witnessed her hilarious wit, intelligence and loving demeanor. She never hesitated to crack a joke and would often have a room full of people roaring with laughter. She was endlessly devoted to her family and attended every event possible. Her strength, love and never-ceasing spunky personality will be remembered by all.

She is survived by her 8 children John (Margaret) of Glens Falls, Patrick (Sandra) of Mountainville, NY, James (Anne) of Nanuet, Anne Bonello (Joseph) of Pearl River, Robert (Catherine) of Cornwall, Ct., Mary Mahoney (William) of Pearl River, Michael (Lana) of Pearl River and Elizabeth Lavelle (Peter) of Madison, Ct., her 15 grandchildren Kristen Burns (Michael), Dina, Patrick (Catherine), Laura Donohue, Michael (Alyssa), Joseph Bonello, Meghan, Elizabeth, David Trancynger, Byron, Kevin, Myles (Jessica), Kayla, Sean and Matthew and 8 great grandchildren Alexander, Jonathan, Olivia, Chase, Anthony, Colin, Brody, and Brooklyn and her brother James Frazier (Angelines).  She is predeceased by her husband John Clohessy, Brothers Jackie Frazier, Charles Frazier and Edward Frazier and her sister Brenda Milliron.
