Kathleen Hickey Bergin, known affectionately by her family as “Nanny” entered the Kingdom of Heaven on June 13, 2022.
Kathleen, was born August 21, 1943 in Yonkers, New York. She resided in Pearl River with her family since 1973. Kathleen was retired from working in the food services industry. She worked at Pascack Valley High School and later worked at the Pearl River Middle School.
Kathleen was a devout parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church where she lovingly taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) for over twenty years. She loved working with the children, she enjoyed the stories and antics, their youth and innocence brought her joy and laughter.
She would surprise you with her knowledge and love of sports and country music. She would watch tennis matches, horse races, figure skating, golf and baseball, to name a few. Kathleen enjoyed traveling and spending time with her brothers and sisters, she adored them and them her.
Kathleen’s best work came in the form of beloved “Nanny”. A devoted and loving grand and great grandmother. Her grandchildren would visit her often, there they would eat snacks, have sleepovers and have endless conversations. Everyone loved Nanny.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas, her children, John, (Linda Wescott) Sinead, (Brendan O’Flynn) Kathleen, (Steve McCusker) and Denis, (Victoria Tourloukis) Her grandchildren, Katie, Paige, Thomas, Tyler, Jack, Isibeal, John, Joseph, Shane, John and her great granddaughter Amelia, her brothers, James, Michael, Thomas and sister, Margaret.
She is preceded by her mother, Josephine, her father, Michael and her sister, Mary. They shall greet her as she comes home.
“Jesus warned that not very many would find their way and prepare themselves to live in the kingdom of heaven. He said, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: … Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:13–14)
