John "Jack" Moriarty

John “Jack” Moriarty of New City passed peacefully in his home on Tuesday September 27th.  Jack was predeceased by his parents John and Mary, his loving wife Maureen (Saults), Brothers Robert and Kenneth, and loving sister Mary. He is survived by His Children Michael (Janet), Grace Petronella , and Maura Hanigan ( James) and loving grandchildren Angela, Victoria, Christopher and Peter, Jackie, James, Julianna , Megan and Casey, as many nieces and nephews who cherished their Uncle Jackie.

Jack was raised in the Highbridge section of the Bronx and graduated from Rice High School. He married the love of his life, Maureen T. Saults in Sacred Heart Church in 1961. Jack and Maureen later moved to the Riverdale section of the Bronx (St. Margaret’s Parish) where there 3 children were born, before moving to New City, where they lived since 1974. Later in Life he was an usher at St Augustine’s Parish and worked part time at H&R Block in Pearl River, where he developed a great following of repeat customers.

Jack was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, where he proudly served on a Destroyer. After returning to the Bronx after his Military Service, he joined his father and brother as a New York City Police Officer, where he dedicated 36 years of service, many of those years in the 44th Precinct, his childhood neighborhood. He was described as a “Cop’s Cop”, who’s loyalty and Bravery were well recognized.

Jack was a loyal Son and Brother, A devoted Father to his 3 children, and a loving Poppy to all his grandchildren. Along with his wife of 58 years Maureen, Jack nurtured lifelong friendships and enjoyed traveling, in addition to his highest priority: spending time with Family and maintaining a strong commitment to their Catholic faith. 

Visiting will be held at Wyman Fisher Funeral  Home Sunday October 2, 2022 from 2 PM  to 5 PM.  A mass of Christian Burial will celebrated 10 AM Monday October 3, 2022 at Saint Augustine R.C. Church New City, NY.  

In lieu of flowers, Jack would have preferred donations in honor of his life to the charity of your choice, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
