John A. Haines of West Nyack, died from complications of Agent Orange poisoning on Monday, November 7, 2022. He was 73.
Mr. Haines worked as a postal worker for the United States Post Office in Pearl River.
Mr. Haines was born on November 29, 1948, in Pearl River, New York, to Curtis and Elsie (Wilkens) Haines. He graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 1966. Mr. Haines served in the United States Marine Corps from Sept. 9, 1966, to Sept. 8, 1970, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He fought in the Tet Offensive and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Doreen; brothers Curtis (Mary) and George (Kelly) Haines; sisters Judey Thibert and Bettee Custer; niece Kate Johnston of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; nephew Douglas Johnston and his wife, Megan, of New City; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Especially beloved were his grand-nephew Aidan Johnston and grand-niece Emma Johnston.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and his best friend, Raymond W. DeMeola.
