Joan Ryan

Joan A. Ryan of Bronx, NY passed away March 19, 2023 at Hackensack Meridian Rehab Center in Shrewsbury, NJ. She was 93. 

Mrs. Ryan was born February 17, 1930 in Bronx, NY to Henry and Geraldine Schnappauf.  She was educated in the Bronx and after high school worked at the New Yorker Magazine in Manhattan, NY as an Executive Secretary.  After marriage she became a full-time mom and homemaker. 

Joan lived in Red Bank/Shrewsbury, NJ for the past 24 years. Before that she lived in Nanuet, NY from 1970-1999 and the Bronx from 1930-1970. 

Mrs. Ryan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Joan will be missed by her family for her sense of humor, determination, strong will and strength.  She epitomized the expression “Glass half full”. 

She is survived by her son, Peter (Sheila) and grandchildren, Brian (Lauren), Jenna and great grandchildren Decklyn and Mckenna. Family members who predeceased her include her husband of 42 years Bernard Ryan, son Christopher, parents Henry and Geraldine Schnappauf and brothers Conrad and Warren. 

Visiting will be held Sunday March 26, 2023 from 2 PM to 5 PM.  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday March 27, 2023 at St. Anthony R.C. Church with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Hawthorne, NY.
