James J. (Jim) O’Brien, 85, passed away on January 6, 2022 at his beloved Pearl River home of 53 years, surrounded by his loving family at his bedside.
Jim was born on November 16, 1936 to parents, James O’Brien (County Galway) and Beatrice Keogan (County Cavan). He was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie and sister in law, Julie, and is survived by a loving and supportive sister, Teresa and her husband, Nino in Natal, Brazil.
On April 11, 1964, Jim married the love of his life, Joan O’Brien. They spent 49 wonderful years together filled with laughter and love until she was called to rest on December 17, 2013.
Jim is survived by his son, Jimmy O’Brien and his wife Laura, and his two daughters, Joanne McDonough and her husband, John, and Jacqueline Carroll and her husband,Charlie; 7 grandchildren, Tyler and Connor O’Brien, Johnny, Brendan and Patrick McDonough, and Hope and Brady Carroll.
Jim was born in “The Bronx” New York. He attended St. Anselm Grammar School, Cardinal Hayes High School and went on to Pace University where he earned his degree in accounting.
Jim worked in New York City and enjoyed a long career as an accountant and CFO. He loved sports and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees as well as being a long time NY Giants season ticket holder for approximately 55 years. He was a member of the AOH and Elks Club in Pearl River.
Jim’s biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with family and friends. He loved to laugh, share food and stories with others and could always be counted on to have a big smile on his face. He will be remembered for his gentle mannerisms and kindness.
Visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm at Wyman - Fisher Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 11 in Pearl River, New York. Funeral services will be held at St. Aedan Catholic Church in Pearl River, New York on Wednesday, January 12 from 10:00am to 11:00am. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, New York.
