George J. Ferrone, 90, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020. George was born in Manhattan on March 6, 1930 to Mary and William Ferrone. George attended Power Memorial High School, St. John’s and Pace University. He also received numerous banking certificates from Northwestern University. George served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953 where he fought in the Korean War. He was stationed on the USS Robert H. McCard and was awarded a Purple Heart. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, George began his career as a banker. George began working at CitiBank in 1953 and after 42 years, he retired as a Vice President in 1995. George met the love of his life, Marian O’Kane during a trip to the Catskills in 1955. On September 14th, 1957 they were married at the Church of the Ascension in Manhattan and they settled in Washington Heights. The Ferrone’s moved to Pearl River where they raised their daughter, Mary. Throughout his life, George volunteered and was on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes, St. Dominic’s Home, The United Way, and many other organizations. Later in life George had many interests including his love of reading, watching movies, playing cards with his friends from CitiBank, going to dinner with friends, hosting parties, and vacationing in the Catskills and the Dunes Manor in Ocean City Maryland. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. He remained an avid parishioner at St. Aedan’s Church in Pearl River. George is survived by his loving wife Marian (O’Kane); daughter Mary (Gettler); son-in-law Al; and his two grandchildren Dan and Kerry. George was a larger than life personality, who exuded confidence and joy with an infectious laugh and a strong faith in God who will be missed but remembered lovingly. He is now at peace. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Monday, August 10, at St. Aedan R. C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3-7pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
