Francis A. Slayne, 83, died peacefully at Nyack Hospital, after a brief illness. Frank was a 53 year resident of Pearl River, NY. He was born on Sept. 28th 1937 in Westchester Square Hospital, Bronx NY to John and Mary (Nikolaus) Slayne.
He grew up in the Parkchester and Throgs Neck areas. Frank graduated from St. Raymond's School and All Hallows High School.
At the age of 19, Frank was hired by New York Telephone as a switchman and retired 38 years later from the Engineering Dept with Verizon.
On Oct. 5, 1963, he married Kathleen Mann at St. Matthias Church, Ridgewood NY.
In 1967, they moved to Pearl River where they raised their 3 children.
Frank loved working around the house. There was nothin he couldn't fix - cars, washing machines, TVs, plumbing. He especially loved tearing down and rebuilding walls and ceilings. (But he really hated painting them.)
Frank is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 57 years. His children, John and his wife, Michaelene of Ormond Beach, FL, Elisabeth Bowers and husband, Henry of Bethel, CT. and Frank and his wife Lisa of Oakland, CA. He was the loving Opa to Steven, Abigail, Andrew, and Madison Emslie, Nicholas and Julia Slayne, and Maxwell Jackson Slayne. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, James Holt, his nephew, James Kehoe, and niece, Susan Macagnone.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Margaret Church or Pearl River Ambulance Corps.
Visiting will be Friday from 3 to 7 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave. Pearl River. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday 10 am. at St. Margaret's Church, 115 W. Central Ave. Pearl River. Internment at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill NY.
