Elizabeth A (Larkin) Van Wynen

Elizabeth A. Van Wynen of Pearl River passed away on December 24, 2020 at Englewood Hospital.  She was 70 years old.

Mrs. Van Wynen was born Oct. 11, 1950 in Brooklyn New York, the oldest child of Walter Larkin and Mary Larkin (Lyons).  She was educated at St. Agnes Seminary and continued her education receiving degrees from Rockland Community College (AAS), Dominican College (BS), NYU (Masters) and an EdD from St. John’s University.   Teaching and learning were central to Liz’s career and she always urged her students to continue on to higher levels of education.

After retiring in 2010 Liz spent several years running her own Stitches and Seams sewing program for both young students and mature adults. In 2011 Liz successfully ran for a Trustee position with the Pearl River Public Library.  She was re-elected in 2016.

Liz’s 30- year career as both a nurse and as a nurse educator spanned many institutions both in an academic and hospital environment.  Teaching was her passion whether it was in an academic environment or a hospital setting she would urge her students to excel and to achieve higher levels of success.

Liz married the love of her life Quinton at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Brooklyn on May 22, 1971. After living in Brooklyn for the first 5 years of married life they moved, with their children Betsey and Quinton to Pearl River in 1976.

Liz is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Quinton and two children Betsey McConeghy of Pearl River and Quinton of Orangeburg.  In addition she is survived by her two granddaughters, Erin and Katie McConeghy.  Liz is also survived by her sister Mary Flanagan and her brother Walter as well as her niece Maryclare Farrington and nephew Michael Flanagan (Rachael) and by her great-nephew Jackson Farrington and her great-niece Whitney Farrington.  Liz was predeceased by her parents Walter and Betsy Larkin.

Calling hours are Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home Inc. from 3-5 PM and 7-9PM.  Funeral mass at 10AM on Wednesday December 30, 2020 at St. Aedan’s.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Liz’ name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
