Bruce M. Hernandez

Bruce Murray Hernandez of Pearl River, NY and Surf City, NJ, passed away on 5/6/2022.  Bruce was born on July 11, 1935, in Yonkers, NY, to Harry Harmon and Susan (Murray) Hernandez.  Bruce grew up in Yonkers, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School, and met his future wife, Joyce Flechaus. He graduated from Iona College in 1957, and was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.  He and Joyce married in 1958 and moved to Pearl River in 1962. Bruce used his keen sales ability in his career with Metropolitan Life Insurance and as an independent businessman. He was a “sports guy,” and enjoyed community softball, basketball and tennis, and later on decided golf wasn’t too slow a game anymore, playing into his later years. He also was a licensed basketball referee and loved to coach anyone who would listen. He and his family often vacationed at the Jersey shore, and he and Joyce were lucky enough to purchase a home in Surf City, LBI, where they eventually retired. They spent winters in Florida, enjoying an active social life. They moved back to Rockland County a few years ago. Bruce had a strong presence, and he will be missed by his family and friends.  He was a great conversationalist and storyteller, and he was a fan of always taking “the scenic route.”  We have no doubt that this new journey is full of the people he has been missing over the years. Bruce is survived by his wife Joyce of 64 years; his children, Susan and husband Paul of New City, NY; Bruce and wife Lynn of St. Davids, PA; Gregg of New York, NY; five granddaughters, Jill (Maggie), Amy (Peter), Amanda, Sarah (Christopher) and Carolyn; great grandchildren Ella and Tucker, sister- and brother-in-laws and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond Allen Hernandez and Donald Doubleday Hernandez, and multiple friends who were like brothers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday at St. Margaret R. C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow atSt. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.   Visiting is Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM  at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Pearl River, NY.  In lieu of flowers friends may send memorial donations to The Michael J.
