Marilyn D. Kuo, passed away peacefully just before midnight on Saturday in her home on November 16, 2019. She was 87 years old.
Born on April 26,1932 to Max A. and Elizabeth Hawkins Dunlap, she grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. She received her BA in English from University of Redlands, Class of 1954, Redlands, California.
She lived a dynamic life, selflessly devoted to her family, friends and community and drew great joy caring for others. Alongside her husband, she supported his many students and later in life found great satisfaction as a literary volunteer. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness and compassion and will be loved and missed beyond relativistic spacetime.
She had three children, Andrea, Sonya and David. David died on April 5, 2013 after a ten year struggle with a brain tumor. She is survived by her husband, John Tsungfen Kuo, Ewing and Worzel Professor Emeritus of Geophysics at Columbia University, her daughters, Andrea and Sonya Kuo and was blessed with five grandchildren, Andrej Vogel, Laura, Rachel, Olivia and Aidan Kuo.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Pearl River United Methodist Church located at 130 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow right after at Rockland Cemetery located at 201 Kings Highway, Sparkhill, NY.
