Irene Scanlan-Volz of Santa Barbara, CA (formerly of Pearl River) passed away on October 21st, 2019 at her residence, Maraposa at Ellwood Shores, Goleta CA. She was 95 years old.
Mrs. Volz worked at the Bank of New York for eighteen years, retiring in 1979.
Irene was born in Manhattan in 1924 to Richard and Mary Burns. Irene moved to Pearl River, NY in 1958 until retiring and moving to Santa Barbara, CA in 1979.
Irene loved to travel. She was active in her retirement community with water aerobics, Bingo and the Red Hat Society. She was also an avid fan of QVC.
Mrs. Volz will be remembered as a family matriarch with undying love for her family and for people in need. She is survived by her children, George Scanlan (Patricia), Laura Case (Craig), Joseph Volz, Eileen McElligott (James), John Scanlan (Karen), Janet Farsetta (Mark), and her sister, Veronica Burns. She is also survived and was greatly loved by her 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, her two husbands, John Scanlan and James Volz, siblings William Burns, Richard Burns, Helen Carroll, Margaret Vaughn and her granddaughter, Jamie Michelle Scanlan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Tuesday at St. Aedan R.C. Church, 23 Reld Drive, Pearl River. Friends may call on Monday, October 28, 2019 between 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
