Joseph (Buddy) F Ayres

Joseph (Buddy) Ayres of Pearl River, NY passed peacefully with grace on April 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by love. 
Buddy was born December 3, 1933 on the west side of Manhattan, NY to Mary (Doherty) and Joseph Ayres. Buddy had many fond memories of his childhood in the Vinegar Hill section of Harlem. He attended Archbishop Dubois H.S., served in the US Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War and continued his calling of service in 1957 by joining  the NYPD where he served for 40 years.

Buddy met the love of his life Maureen Browne on Bailey Avenue, they married in 1959 and resided on W232nd St. Bronx, N.Y. where they began their family. By 1974 a move to a larger home landed the Ayres clan in Pearl River NY. Together Buddy and Maureen raised a family of 7 children, 7 children in law, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren while enjoying 64 years of marriage and creating treasured friendships.

Buddy Ayres wore many hats very well. Doting husband, loving attentive father, selfless friend, courageous colleague, supportive boss and his favorite…’Pop’ to all.

Buddy is survived by his wife Maureen (Browne), sons: Joseph (Karen), Brendan (Cathy), Brian (Nadine), Kenny (Jasmine); daughters: Maura (John predeceased), Veronica (Jan), Annie (Peter); Grandchildren: Christine (Chris), Christopher (Sylvia), John, Kassidy, Michael, Gregory, Kyle, Peter, Brendan, Collin and Elena; Great Grandchildren: Christopher, Kenadie, Lucas, Logan and Vincent; Sister Patricia Monahan and many loving nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by sister Marie O’Reilly.

Buddy was an organized and articulate man who was an intriguing storyteller. He will forever be remembered for his love, dedication and support of family, devoted faith, care and attention to friends and most of all his warm welcoming smile.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Tuesday April 9, 2024 at St. Aedan R.C. Church. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.  
Visitation will be held April 8, 2024 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
