Josephine Urban Obituary

In loving memory of Josephine Urban:

Josephine (Jo) Urban, a woman cherished for her dynamic spirit and unwavering strength, passed away on April 24, 2024, at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration. Born to Italian immigrants in Yonkers, New York, Josephine's upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for family and community. She pursued her education with diligence, graduating from Mount Saint Vincent, before marrying William (Bill) Urban in 1958 and eventually moving to Pearl River in 1965 where they established roots and raised their family.

Jo was a devoted wife, mother to five sons and a cherished grandmother to fourteen grandchildren. She was a role model to her daughters-in-laws, who she embraced with warmth and all of whom considered her a second mother. Her marriage to Bill was one shaped in love as they were unquestionably devoted to each other. Her encouraging presence and steady guidance molded her children and grandchildren into compassionate and successful individuals who continue to carry her values forward.

Fluent in six languages, Jo had a successful career at Lederle Labs for 25 years as a Regulatory Affairs Coordinator. Retirement did not stop her, and she remained active in her church as well as in various community organizations and leadership roles. Together with Bill, she prioritized her time to spend with family and friends while also traveling extensively. In 2019, Jo and Bill moved into Brightview Assisted Living. Sadly, a few weeks later, she mourned the passing of her beloved husband. Despite this loss, Brightview brought renewed life for her, providing social connections and activities that reinvigorated her spirit.

Jo's lively personality and sharp sense of humor endeared her to all who knew her. She approached life with zest and enthusiasm, finding joy in the simple pleasures and facing life’s challenges with grace and determination. She was always ready for an adventure and eager to try new things. Her love of oysters and lobster is legendary. We are grateful that she was able to celebrate numerous milestones in recent years, including the weddings of her grandchildren, birthdays, confirmations, and holidays.

The legacy Jo leaves behind is her family, the importance of being active and connected within the community, and a resilience to fight for what you believe in, never losing a sense of adventure and joy. This is the legacy of a truly remarkable woman. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jo is survived by her sons, William, Michael, Christopher, Robert and Richard, her daughter-in-laws, Mary, Lisa, Annie and Eileen and her grandchildren, Shay, Keri, Sean, Matthew, Bryan, Colleen, Zoe, Kyle, Jennifer, Timothy, Ryan, Lillian, Dylan and Casey.
